The effective executive focuses on contribution above all. He is focused outward, on what he can do to bring results. For the effective executive, result is the only metric that matters in the end, gain and glory are the side effects of doing the right things well.

Drucker's challenge to make Monday different is deceptively difficult. It requires figuring out not only what you should do, but also what you shouldn't' do.
The effective executive must know where to funnel his effort to make meaningful contribution, he should have a list of tasks he chooses not to tackle so he can focus with exquisite clarity on a small number of priorities.
